ARTWORK
My pieces involve surreal worlds, creatures and bizarre imagery. They are based around peculiar narratives often inspired by my dreams.
Most of my art plays with underwater elements, sea monsters or immersive visuals that elicit discomfort. I draw my inspiration from my fear of images of large things under water, particularly machines and sea creatures. (I recently discovered that there are actual words to describe this fear! Megalohydrothalassophobia, Bathophobia, Thalassophobia, Submechanophobia...thank you, Reddit.)
I deeply enjoy this theme because the process of engaging with panic-driven imagery thrills me. By taking viewers to a place that is unfamiliar to them, I hope to evoke a similar feeling in them.
Formally, I tend to use a “visual feast” of bright colors, textures, and exaggerated space. A tactile experience commands how I interact with elements on canvas. By physically touching my art, I am able to directly guide material and color without an intermediary. Often, shades of earth and blue dominate my work because of their association with Mother Earth. She is an entity that I believe hides outlandish secrets.
